In the words of her parents, knowledge and image were synonymous with power. Image was everything, and knowing secrets but appearing merely innocent in the knowledge of that secret made wealth. Knowing the who's who in the dredges of society, and either publicly allying or distancing yourself with that person spoke leagues about someone, and could make or break a career in politics. It was also why Elaine found the idea of politics so exhausting and wouldn't be likely to rise high in the ranks of her future career because of her resistance in playing them. It was bad enough playing them at home when her parents required it of her. "Knowledge is power or so they say. And in our case I could go with the cheesy statement of friends don't let friends walk alone but I'm not that pathetic so I'll just leave it where I did." Elaine couldn't go too cheesy and soft, if that got around she wouldn't have a reputation to worry about. She'd be the laughing stock of the Slytherin's and those she called friends merely because saying my acquaintance yada yada took too long. Elaine figured she had two genuinely real friends, and both of them had the last name Lestrange.
She wished to change that, to change the stigma of Slytherin's even if it was from within and not many outside their walls would realize that not all the Slytherin's were Dark Lord worshipping pieces of trash. Like every other house there were incorrect stigma's attached to the Slytherin's, the house of the serpents were slippery, they weren't the devil incarnate, or most of them weren't at any rate. "I want to change the thoughts but that might make me look soft, and my dad would never let me hear the end of it if I seemed like a soft hearted Slytherin." Given her dad had been a member of the Inquisitorial Squad from some Umbridge lady everyone else but the Slytherin's seemed to hate back in his day at Hogwarts he hadn't been soft in the slightest, even if he'd never outright joined the Death Eaters, he was too noncommittal to anything that wasn't guaranteed. She'd always been told he know that Voldemort wouldn't stay in power so he wasn't aligning himself outwardly with them, not that he did much to help the Order during the time, and it was why Elaine had always been taught to tow the line on both sides of conflict until a clear winner is in the picture, but even then don't outright declare a side unless forced to do so. It was politics, plain and simple, and Elaine was learning she really disliked playing the political game and was glad she never had the ambitions to run a department in whatever kickass career she chose post Hogwarts, she just wanted to be in the thick of the action. Turning her thoughts from her dad and the political game he lived to play to the thought of Harvey training up a protegee like Elaine was attempting to do, certainly had a smile pulling to her lips, "The thought of a first year getting close enough to you to know you won't turn them into mush is very entertaining." Elaine chuckled before adding, "Maybe I'll try and desensitize mine to you and they can be both of our spies. Either way I'd likely pass on anything interesting I learned to you anyway." She shrugged knowing that she would use said spies to help quell the rumour mill as far as him and Cory went and maybe get those fights to ease up so her eye candy could be around more. Winking at him when she told him he as better looking than most she failed to smother a smile knowing he knew just how hot he was to most ladies around here and a good portion of them would fall into bed with him without hesitation, "Got to keep you on your toes. Otherwise you'd get all egotistical if every female around here told you're sex on legs. Someone's got to bring you down a peg and who better than me." She shrugged, though her explanation of bringing his ego down a peg relayed that she agreed with their assessment of his level of sexy. It could have been worse, she could have been calling Harvey a nerd like she was his brother, even if it wasn't true, but she knew Cory would get a kick out of her calling him a nerd, "I will." She stated simply, knowing once she had her mind set to something she wasn't easily swayed from it. Same went for her inflated sense of ego and knowing that while Harvey was sexier than sin, she was also pretty sexy herself. "They would be fawning all over me. Doesn't mean I'd be fawning over them though." She said vaguely, letting his mind wonder if she would be fawning over him instead.
Of course she pretty much made it clear when she then straddled his lap, crossing a line she'd yet to really cross in their history. They'd always had a thing, they'd always flirted back and forth, but this was the first time she'd moved to take it a step further and found the idea of it...thrilling. Chills went down her spine at their proximity and the edge of more they were dangling on. Harvey saying flat out he didn't want to share her and risk being caught by his apparently not bright roommate had them heading towards the Astronomy tower, after a stop at the kitchens where she grabbed a bottle of good ole muggle liquor she'd stashed there with some of the elves who seemed far too scared of a Slytherin girl to give up the hiding place to just anyone. The liquor along with food and normal drinks and then a stop at another hiding place close by for blankets and they arrived at the tower where it was as deserted as she knew it would be as she sat down at Harvey's beckoning putting down her own items nearby, and sticking to where they left off and moving to sit on his lap, a satisfied smirk on her lips as she did so. "Better indeed." She murmured feeling the electricity in the air more potent now that they were alone.
