As the train set off from King's Cross Station to take the students to Hogwarts for the start of the new school year, little did anyone know that everything was about to change.
Things were calm for years after Voldemort’s fall. The name lost some of the fear it once instilled in so many, tentative whispers of the name when those who were alive during those dark days recounted the tale to their children and grandchildren like a ghost story, but there were still those who used the threat of Voldemort returning to keep their children in line. There were the usual attempts to copy Voldemort's actions and make it seem like a new big bad was in town but they were quickly stamped out by Aurors, Hitwizards and Guardians alike.
In an attempt to better prepare its students for the future, Hogwarts has become the first wizarding school in the world to move with the times and introduce a University to it’s roster of teaching magical youth. Hogwarts University offers up to three extra years of schooling for those students pursuing careers in Ministry field work such as Aurors and Hitwizards and in the ever changing medical fields as well as offering courses to Cursebreakers who wish to work for Gringotts and choose to further their education at Hogwarts. These students will dorm separately from their houses and have only a few select advanced classes with both their Hogwarts Professors and also current and retired names in their field with those classes leading into actual field work. Even quidditch players aren't being left behind as the University offers intensive training with past and present professional quidditch players so that aspiring professionals can hone their skills and become the best players they can be.
Travel has also changed now that floo powder is a thing of the past thanks to Arthur Weasley’s invention of the Weasley line of magical vehicles. Due to their newfound riches they have decided to pay it forward and started the Weasley Foundation, a fund for low income families to provide brand-new school supplies to Hogwarts students to save the children the embarrassment of having to make do with hand-me-downs. It also provides magical contractors for large families to safely expand their homes to accommodate all their occupants and Mrs. Molly Weasley has been known to personally stock their kitchens and provide cooking lessons for feeding large families on a budget.
Unfortunately with all these advancements to better magical living, there’s also those seeking to take advantage of and exploit the things that make the magic world connected and safe. A group who call themselves The Enlightened decided to take the Statute of Magical Secrecy and rip it from existence, having kept their own existence a secret until the time was right. Towns all across the globe where magical and muggle folk had lived in harmony for years were thrust into chaos when The Enlightened hacked news feeds and live streamed the murders of several well-known magical and muggle people, using very obvious magic. The students returning to Hogwarts were met by Aurors and Guardians to accompany them safely to Hogwarts when they disembarked the train and were told the grave news about what had happened. The Ministry is now trying to track down this group, to stamp them out but they’re elusive, hiding behind masks and screens. Chaos is spreading as everyone wonders who are The Enlightened? Is it the sketchy neighbour down the hall? The charming well liked co-worker in the office? Only time will tell.
