It was New Year’s Day and Summer was making the most of the free time that she had with the girls before school started up again and she went back to work. The girls definitely knew how to keep her on her toes and that morning they had ended up playing a few games before the girls asked if they could bake some cookies that afternoon. They were too young to do too much but they did love baking even if they always ended up making a complete mess of it and Summer knew that she couldn’t say no. Micheal was due to be making a speech to the magical community that afternoon and Summer already knew that she was going to watch it but she had to entertain the girls first. Truth be told she had wanted to be there behind the camera to support him while he gave his speech since she knew how much of a big deal it was to him but she hadn’t been able to get anyone to watch the girls so she had to make do with watching him from home instead. She knew that he was going to do great but ever since they got together she had been trying to make sure he knew that she was always in his corner supporting him. It was crazy to think that she was dating the Minister for Magic and even now there were times when Summer found herself forgetting that that’s what his position was these days. She had known him before that so to her he was just Micheal and even though she had thought that he might have to cut ties with her after he became Minister for Magic he hadn’t done that and she couldn’t deny that she was glad about that especially now they were together.
It didn’t take Summer long to gather together the ingredients they were going to need and Summer couldn’t help but laugh as the girls asked for some music while they baked. “Go on then,” she grinned, letting them pick what they wanted while she finished setting up. It wasn’t long before music was playing and all three of them were singing along and Summer put the girls to work, not surprised at all when they both ended up covered in flour and dough and about a third of the chocolate chips ended up in their mouths rather than in the cookies. It didn’t matter though, all Summer cared about was that her girls were happy and from the way they started dancing around the kitchen while they waited for the cookies to bake. Summer knew that she could use magic for that but it took away the fun of it as far as she was concerned and Summer knew that she didn’t want her girls relying on magic for everything so she tried to show them the muggle way of doing things when she could. Summer had completely lost track of time while they were busy in the kitchen but as she realised that time was getting on, she made her way through to the living room. “I’ll be back in a minute girls, don’t touch the oven,” she warned even though she knew that they knew better than to do that. Frowning as she realised that the television was on unaware that it had come on earlier of its own accord just like the Enlightened had planned, Summer didn’t even have time to take in what was being shown on the screen because a knock on the door soon sounded and she turned the television off, dropping the remote onto the sofa before making her way to the front door. She wasn’t expecting any visitors but as she opened the door she caught sight of a concerned looking Micheal and that was enough to make her heart ache. “Micheal? What is it, are you okay? Is Grace okay?” she asked, instantly worried that something had happened.
