It was one of those rare moments that Evelyn had to herself. All of the children were safe - her own and Summer's. The ward herself was safe, which was always the number one priority. It wasn't easy being a Guardian; this was no nine to five. There was no clocking out on a set schedule five days a week. She was always on call, always expected to be ready to protect the one in her charge. Of course, in that instance, Summer would immediately deflect Evelyn's protection in favor of her young daughters, which was an even bigger strain as she tried to balance her duty specifically to her ward and her Ward's own preferences. Nonetheless, it wasn't an around-the-clock career, which was why she found herself walking a very familiar path through the hallways of Hogwarts. She could probably find her way to the Transfiguration classroom in her sleep while blindfolded and blasted with a Confundus hex. Maybe there was something internal that drew her to her husband, she wasn't sure. She didn't even know if he would be there. He could have used his own fleeting freedom to get fresh air or stretch his legs.
Since Evie's reassignment, it hadn't been easy to spend time with Bo. Their schedules always clashed, one of them always being called away to handle some job matter. That sort of distance may have forced a weaker relationship to crumble, but Evelyn had the patience of a saint and an utter dedication to her beloved husband. The attraction had been magnetic from the start, and despite the initial speedbumps and the occasional couple's spat, the strength of their bond had been unwavering. That reassurance alone was enough to bring a smile to Evelyn's face as she increased her pace slightly.
As much as she complained about the predatory marketing of Valentine's Day and various other hokidays, she nonetheless wanted to ask her husband out for a cozy night in Hogsmeade or the surrounding villages and cities. Madame Puddifoot was always heavily decorated for the occasion, or they might be able to catch one of those Muggle moving pictures. There was always the probability that one of them would receive a summons, but she could at least make the effort to make their time together special.
Finally reaching the door of the classroom, Evie rapped on it gently with her knuckles before pushing it open. The old wood protested with a squeak but gave way into the stone-clad room. It was bizarre to think she had once sat at those very desks. She had initiated her Animagus transformation there, taking a bemused pleasure in the nostalgia of holding that Mandrake leaf in her mouth, using it as an excuse to not talk to Bo and watching his frustration grow. Not surprisingly, her Animagus form took on her partner's counterpart as well, her telltale brown eyes and dark brown hair becoming her identifying features in her animal form. If a lioness wandering around on the grounds didn't give her away, that definitely would.
"Bo?" she called out, "Are you here? I really don't want to play tag all over the castle."
