Samuel always felt a little silly dressing up for the Yule Ball. He knew that he shouldn’t considering that everyone was in the same boat as him but he couldn’t help it. There was just something about it that made him feel a little uncomfortable and he’d shot up in the last year so he hadn’t even been able to go for something that he had worn before. Shopping really wasn’t his favourite thing to do but he’d made himself go out and get something new and now as he pulled it on he couldn’t help but feel like perhaps he was making a mistake. He really did feel silly but he knew that he would regret it if he skipped the Yule Ball so that wasn’t an option as far as he was concerned. Last year he’d had his OWLs playing on his mind and next year he would have his NEWTs to think about but this year he didn’t have to worry about either of those things. He had thought about asking a girl to go with him but in the end he had decided to go alone and see who was there instead. It was still a little strange knowing that his sister and Ryan were going together considering that he and Savannah had grown up with Ryan and his twin but if he was honest he was glad that it was a friend his sister was going with and not a guy who was just going to use her and hurt her. Ryan was a good guy so if there was anyone that he would approve of attending with his sister, it would be him.
Unfortunately that meant that if Samuel ended up hanging out with the two of them then he would be somewhat of a third wheel but he had already made his peace with that. He knew that he wasn’t going to spoil the evening for the two of them so he had already decided that he was going to make himself scarce as much as he could and after grabbing himself a glass of punch he started making his way through the crowd talking to the people he saw that he recognised. He had plenty of friends in attendance which was definitely a good thing as far as he was concerned but eventually his gaze came to rest on a familiar girl standing alone off to the side, another one of his friends but one he hadn’t known was going to be attending that evening. Finishing his drink, Samuel set the empty glass down on the side before making his way over to her. “Hey, you look beautiful,” he said, offering her a genuine smile as he reached her. “I wasn’t sure you were going to make it. Would you like to dance?” he asked, hoping that she would say yes.
