Finding a date for the Yule Ball had never been a challenge for Harvey. In the past he had always gone with whatever girl he was having a fling with at the time but this year was different. He and Elaine had started hooking up at the start of the year but for the first time it was more than that for Harvey. He liked Elaine, she was his best friend and the two of them had always been close but she was the only person that he had ever confided in about what his parents had tried to do. He hadn’t even told Cory about that but he trusted Elaine and if he was honest it was a relief to be able to share it with someone. He had been carrying the weight of what he had heard around with him ever since his first year and he had known that it was about time that he told someone. Harvey had never been good at opening up to people, in fact he was one of those people that most tended to stay far away from and he really couldn’t blame them. He had a temper and a low tolerance for stupidity and he seemed to come across people like that on a daily basis. Truth be told he had been fine with his track record of just having flings and one night stands, he hadn’t thought that he would want anything more with someone but with Elaine he was seriously starting to wonder if perhaps he could do the whole relationship thing after all.
He hadn’t talked to her about that but he wouldn’t be surprised if she suspected something had changed. She knew him better than most so she would know that this was the longest that he had ever seen any girl for. He had never tried to hide his conquests and it was no secret that he had had a different girl on the go most weeks but with Elaine it was different. They had been seeing each other for a while and the truth was that Harvey had no intention of stopping that. He genuinely cared about her and always had done so there was a part of him that had known that there was the potential for something more there but aside from his brothers she was the one person that he knew he never wanted to lose form his life so he had been reluctant to risk losing that. Now as it turned out it was one of the best things he had done in a long time and it was certainly making his seventh year memorable. That year they were going to the Yule Ball together and Harvey couldn’t deny that he was looking forward to it. Getting dressed up wasn’t his favourite thing to do but he knew how to rock a suit and he was confident in his appearance as he straightened his tie and pulled on his jacket. He had agreed to meet Elaine outside the Great Hall so they could make an entrance together and it was there that he waited for her now while the ball got started without them inside.
