It always felt a little strange for Teddy to go back to Hogwarts after graduating. The school had been his home for seven years and he had enjoyed his time there but by the time his seventh year had rolled around he had felt like he was ready to go out into the world and start living his life. He knew that he might have stayed on at the university if it had been up and running by then but it hadn’t been so instead he had launched himself straight into his career at the Ministry and it had to be said that he knew he had found what he was meant to be doing with his life. He had heard from his grandmother that his dad had been worried that he might have inherited his lycanthropy from him but he hadn’t, instead Teddy had been born a metamorphmagus like his mum and he was able to use those abilities to his advantage. It was much easier for him to shift into someone else and go undercover than it was for someone who would have to use polyjuice potion and it was a lot less dangerous as well since he didn’t have to worry about time running out on him. He was able to do things that others weren’t and that meant that he often ended up working in the field which was just fine with him. He had thought about becoming an Auror like his mum but he had wanted to do things his own way and he knew that being a Hitwizard was a much better fit for him than anything else. His work was dangerous, Teddy knew that, but he always had Blake in his corner watching his back and soon it wouldn’t be long before Vee graduated and would be able to join them as well so he knew that he was lucky.
That day was a little different, he had finished his latest mission the day before and the report had already been filed so now Teddy had some free time until the next mission came up. He had never been the kind of person who liked sitting around twiddling his thumbs so he had asked to be assigned to Hogwarts so he could keep an eye on things there for a while but it was still strange being back there now. It was never lost on him that this was where his parents had died, they had fought in the Battle of Hogwarts and he was beyond proud of them for that but it had meant that he’d had to grow up without either of them around. Not a day went by when he didn’t think about them and as he made his way through the gates and onto the school’s grounds, Teddy’s hand absentmindedly curled around the rings he wore around his neck every day. They were his parents’ wedding rings and he always kept them with him to remind himself that he needed to be brave like them. He might not have had his parents while he was growing up but he’d had his grandmother, his god father and the Potters and Weasleys were family to him so he knew that it could have been a lot worse. He might have been born an only child but that wasn’t how he had grown up – as far as he was concerned James and Albus were his brothers and Lily was his sister. Now there were a lot of people at Hogwarts that Teddy wanted to make sure were kept safe and that was why he had asked for the assignment. As it was he hadn’t even made it through the courtyard into the school when he spotted a familiar figure ahead of him and he jogged to catch up. “Hey,” he said, nudging Albus’s arm playfully with his own as he fell into step beside him. “I was hoping I might run into you, how are you doing?”
