It felt like a lifetime had passed since Jacob had graduated at the end of his seventh year but the reality was that no matter how much things had changed, it had only been just over a year since that day. Most of his friends had decided to move on and either travel or jump straight into their chosen career and Jacob would be lying if he said that he hadn’t thought about it but in the end he had decided to attend the university his brother had started for a few years so he could hone his skills and get some experience under his belt before starting to work at the Ministry. Jacob knew that option wasn’t for everyone but the truth was that he was enjoying it. It had taken him a while to figure out what he wanted to do with his life but the truth was that now he was more certain than ever that he had made the right choice by training to become an Auror. All of his siblings worked in different professions so he knew that he could have followed in the footsteps of any one of them but in the end he had realised that he had wanted to do things his own way. He was the youngest out of his siblings and most of them had already graduated from Hogwarts before he’d even started there but he’d still had Ana and he’d had the chance to be there to help his nieces and nephews when they got to the school so he knew that he definitely wasn’t going to argue with that.
Right now with everything that was going on with the Enlightened Jacob knew that his loved ones were safe at Hogwarts and in the surrounding villages but he was still glad that he was on hand to help keep an eye on them all in case they needed it. His brother Will had resurrected the Order of the Phoenix and those contacts were helping in any way they could while the Ministry and Guardians tried to do the same. No one knew who was responsible for the attacks other than that they called themselves the Enlightened and that made them that much more dangerous. They hadn’t shown any remorse whatsoever when they’d killed innocent people and revealed magic to the world and there was a part of Jacob that longed to be out there with the Aurors trying to track down those responsible but he knew that he needed to finish his training first. Thankfully the university classes were more practical than those in the lower school had been and he spent more time out in the field shadowing other Aurors and learning everything that he could from them but he still spent some time at the school so right now he couldn’t help but feel like he had the best of both worlds.
That day Jacob’s sparring session with the Auror he had been working with had been cut short by an emergency and Jacob found himself at a loose end for the rest of the day. He knew that there were a few things that he could do in order to keep himself occupied but there was one that stood out more than any other and he was soon pushing open the door to the studio that Nessie owned. She was one of his oldest friends considering that her mum and his brother were best friends so they had pretty much grown up together. It had been a little while since they had last seen each other, though, so he couldn’t resist the chance to surprise her and take a look around while he was at it. Once he was inside it didn’t take him long to spot Nessie and he felt a smile touch his lips. She had her back to him so she hadn’t seen him yet and he took a couple of steps closer before speaking up. “Hi, is the owner around? I’d like to make a complaint,” he said, doing his best to keep his voice serious as he spoke while he waited to see her reaction.
