Angel knew that Summer would probably kill him if she found out that he had invited Micheal out for a drink so he could get to know him better and find out exactly what the guy’s intentions towards his sister were. They were twins and Angel knew that she was more than capable of looking out for herself but the truth was that she had always had a much more difficult time of it than he had. She’d faced a lot of scrutiny when others in their year had found out that she was a vampire and some of the girls in her dorm had turned against her for a while. Angel had been fortunate enough that he had never found himself in that same position but his protective instincts had kicked in back then the same time they had done so many times when they were younger and the same way that they were doing now. They had grown up without their father around as he had abandoned them when they were really young and their mum had worked in order to support them. He and Summer had grown closer because of that and he knew that the last thing he wanted was for his sister to end up getting hurt again. Finn had helped Summer see that it was possible to love someone and have them decide to stay and he had seen the way that his sister’s heart had broken the day he had died. She had been left behind to look after their twin girls on her own and Angel tried to help as much as he could as did their friends but he knew that it just wasn’t the same as having a partner there to shoulder everything. Angel wished that he could have saved his sister from experiencing that heartache but she had the girls and Finn had truly loved all three of them so he knew that she would never want to take back their time together, he just wished that the outcome could have been different.

Now she seemed to be in a much better place than she had been for a long time and a big part of that was down to Micheal. His companionship was something that Angel knew meant a lot to Summer and Angel knew that it was possible for men and women to be just friends but he also knew how easy it was for those lines to become blurred over time. It was that way for him with Cora, she was his friend and the two of them were often there for each other but if he was honest something had changed between them on his part at least. Angel had known his fair share of heartache as well so it wasn’t easy for him to open his heart to someone new but he knew that he wanted to try. Of course he wasn’t sure whether or not she felt the same so it might not end up coming to anything anyway but just knowing that he could still feel that way about someone after everything he had been through felt like a weight had been lifted off his shoulders. He and Summer talked a lot and he knew that she had worried about moving on but he had tried to reassure her that Finn would want her to be happy and he wouldn’t be surprised if Chantal and Ana had done the same. They all knew that Summer and Micheal were spending time together but he wasn’t sure if any of them knew exactly what was going on between them and that was what Angel wanted to find out if he could. It felt a little odd knowing that he was going to be having this conversation with the Minister for Magic but if something did happen between him and Summer then Angel wanted to make sure that he was a good guy and wouldn’t hurt her or the girls.

Truth be told Angel hadn’t even known if Micheal would be able to make it given his busy schedule but eventually he arrived and Angel shook his head as the guy said that being late didn’t give a very good first impression. “Don’t worry about it, I’m grateful you were able to take the time to meet me at all,” Angel assured him as he took a sip of his drink. As Micheal asked if everything was okay with Summer and the girls, Angel felt a smile touch his lips. “They’re fine, they’re having a girls’ day,” he nodded, knowing that Summer would let him know if there were any problems. “I’m a bit rusty at this so I’m just going to come right out and say it. I know you’ve been spending a lot of time with my sister and I know you mean a lot to her so I want to see what your intentions towards her are and make sure that she isn’t going to end up getting her heart broken again,” he said, knowing that it would probably be best to just come right out and say it no matter how silly it might sound. “I know Summer can look after herself but I’ve seen her get hurt too many times in the past and I don’t want her to go through that again.” Of course nothing was ever guaranteed when it came to relationships but he at least wanted to make sure that Micheal was a good guy and was worthy of his sister in case anything did happen between them.

MICHEAL ALEXANDER HERONDALE

Angel had never thought that he would end up doing this. Like him, Summer had never had the best luck with relationships while they were growing up but he had thought that she had found the person that she would get to spend her forever with in Finn. It had come as such a surprise when he had learned that Finn had been killed on the job. It was always a risk with anyone in that profession, it was a risk that his best friend Seth faced every day, but Finn had been good at his job and he had always been careful from what Seth had told him so he had honestly hoped that the guy would make it through unscathed. Instead Summer had been left a widow with twin girls to raise on her own and Angel hated that she’d had to go through that. He had always been protective of her but now he had more reason to feel that way than ever before. He and Summer were twins and they had always looked out for each other so he knew that he wanted to at least try and that was why he had asked Micheal to meet him. He would be lying if he said that he wasn’t a little intimidated by the fact that the guy his sister was interested in just so happened to be the Minister for Magic but Micheal was important to Summer and for that reason Angel knew that he needed to get to know him a little and make sure that he wasn’t going to hurt her. From what Summer had told him the guy had been there for her and the girls after Finn died so he already had that going for him but Angel knew that it was different having someone as a friend than it was having them as something more so he knew that he needed to have a chat with the guy even if Summer might end up killing him for it later.

Honestly he was surprised that Micheal had managed to find some time in his busy schedule for him so Angel knew that he definitely wasn’t going to hold it against the guy that he was a little late. Taking a sip of his drink, Angel nodded as Micheal said he wished that Summer would take a Guardian with her when she and the girls went out. “You and me both. I tried telling her that some of the people who went after her before could be tied up with the Enlightened now but she didn’t want to listen.” One thing was for sure, his sister could be stubborn when she wanted to be and that was never going to change. The guys responsible for killing Finn and putting Summer and the girls in danger had been caught but that didn’t mean that there weren’t some who had slipped through the net or others who wanted revenge for their friends and loved ones being locked away now that they had an excuse to do something about it. Angel wasn’t really sure whether his sister hadn’t truly wanted to listen or whether she wasn’t ready to think that there might be another threat that she and the girls would have to worry about but either way he could definitely understand why she wanted to give them some normalcy for a while. As Micheal said he would hate to see a well polished version if that was rusty, Angel couldn’t help but laugh. “Now I know you’re just being nice,” he chuckled. It had been a long time since he had last done this and he had a feeling that threatening Micheal given his position really wouldn’t go down too well so he knew better than to do that. “I’m glad to hear it,” Angel said sincerely. “People always seem to leave Summer and the others in my family behind and I needed to know that you weren’t going to do the same,” he admitted. His dad had left them at a young age and then Summer had had boyfriends leave her behind before while he had been through the same with girlfriends. Even their adopted sister had experienced the same and he needed to make sure that Micheal wasn’t going to be the next person to do that because he didn’t even want to think about his sister going through that pain again. “My sister is resilient but there’s only so much that even she can take.” Unfortunately falling for someone and letting them into your heart was always going to be a risk though and that was never going to change. Micheal at least had the fact that he was already a vampire going for him, not to mention he had been alive for longer than either of them had been. He had survived this long and that was enough to make Angel hopeful that things might turn out differently this time. “I’m glad you’ll be there for her no matter what but I don’t think you need to worry, she’ll let you know when she’s ready,” Angel assured him. “You mentioned your daughter, does she know?” he asked, not sure how Micheal’s own daughter would feel about the idea of her dad being with someone.
