Dom had always known that his fifth year at Hogwarts was going to be tough, Ryan and Ashlyn had faced their OWLs last year so in a way he knew what was to come but no one could have foreseen what the Enlightened were going to do at the start of the school year. They had thrown the whole world into chaos and now the truth was out there it couldn’t be taken back. Living in secret from muggles was all that Dom had ever known but he had been fortunate enough to grow up in the magical community so it hadn’t affected him as much as it had others. He had known not to talk about magic when he ventured into muggle parts of the world with his family but otherwise things had been pretty normal. Dom knew that there were others who would have felt the divide much more than he and his family had done but that was just one of those things. He knew that he was never going to be okay with the way the Enlightened had taken innocent lives to get their message across, even if he could see why some people might not want to continue living their lives keeping a secret from muggles the way they had gone about it was completely wrong and Dom knew that he was never going to be able to condone that. The effects of what had happened that day were still being felt around Hogwarts even now two months later despite the fact that they were perfectly safe at the school and he had a feeling that it would be that way for some time to come. His uncle Will was doing everything he could in order to keep them safe and Dom was grateful to him for that. There had been talk about some of the students returning home at the start of the year because their families hadn’t thought that it was safe enough for them to stay but that opinion had soon changed and inside the walls of Hogwarts at least there were times when it was easy to block out what was going on in the rest of the world. Dom worried about his family, there was no way he wouldn’t give that some of them were out there trying to keep them safe while others like Ana were constantly in the public eye but he knew he just had to believe that they would be fine.
Inside Hogwarts at least he could keep an eye on his siblings and cousins and he knew that he could count on Ryan to help him do that. It wasn’t just his family that he was protective of, it was his friends as well and Dom knew that he wanted to be there for them in any way that he could be too. That day had been a pretty busy one as far as classes were concerned but as a free period rolled around, Dom knew that he needed to get some fresh air. Being cooped up inside wasn’t something that he could deal with for too long without needing a break especially at the moment and right now was definitely one of those times. Having grabbed himself a drink from the kitchen, he headed outside to the training grounds. He didn’t regret the fact that he had signed up for the classes that he had done but some of them required more work than others and that day there were a few spells that he had found himself struggling with. That frustrated the Ravenclaw more than anything most of the time and now was no exception so he knew that he needed to let off some steam and perhaps get some practice in while he was at it. Reaching the training grounds, he soon realised that the area was empty so he retrieved a couple of the training dummies before moving away from them, firing the spell he had been struggling with at them continuously as he attempted to master it. Deep down Dom knew that it was natural for it to take time to learn certain spells but given who his dad and uncle were he always felt the pressure to get it first time and he hated the idea of ever letting them down so he was the kind of guy who wouldn’t give up until he figured it out and that was certainly the case now as his spells hit the dummy over and over again but not quite as he had intended them to.
