Samuel’s fifth year had been difficult since he’d had to face his OWLs at the end of the year like the rest of his classmates but he had made it through those exams in one piece and he had honestly thought that his sixth year would be a little easier since he didn’t have any major exams at the end of that year. As it turned out he couldn’t have been more wrong, his sixth year had started with the Enlightened revealing magic to the world and ever since then things had been crazy. Samuel could tell that the students around him were scared and the truth was that he couldn’t blame them, none of them knew what was going to happen and he knew that it would be a long time before things started to settle down. Right now muggles were terrified that all witches and wizards were like those working with the Enlightened but they were the minority and all he could do was hope that in time the muggles would start to see that. Whether or not it would happen remained to be seen but Samuel knew that he wasn’t going to give up hope, he couldn’t afford to. He knew that he had more reason to worry than a lot of people did, his mum had become Headmistress which meant that she had a huge target on her back and that wasn’t something that Samuel took lightly.
Having already lost his dad before he was even born he knew that the last thing he wanted was to end up losing anyone else that he cared about so he had been training harder than ever to make sure that he could protect them if anything happened. He had been busy practicing his duelling spells with Ryan in the Room of Requirement that morning, his friend wanted to make sure that he could protect his family too, and Samuel had ended up losing track of time completely. He was meant to be meeting his mum for lunch and by the time he realised what the time was, he was already five minutes late. Apologising quickly to Ryan, Samuel grabbed his things and raced through the castle, only coming to a stop when he reached his mum’s office. “I’m so sorry I’m late mum,” he said, finally catching his breath now that he had reached his destination. “Are you still up for getting lunch?”
