━ we never learn. we've been here before ━
CAMERON'S FIRST INSTINCT WAS TO SAY NO, his friends wouldn't have blamed him for it but as soon as they friends dropped the bomb that they had a date for him planned, they both looked at him with such hopeful eyes with a hint of pleading in them and that was when his shoulders sagged in defeat and he eventually succumbed to his fate. That's how he ended up in his bedroom getting changed into something that wouldn't have his date running to the other side of the world. He looked at his reflection over a hundred times before he eventually decided that he was done and began making his way out of his bedroom. His friends cheered at the sight of him but he quickly shushed him so they wouldn't ruin their hard work by waking up his little girl.
"You guys are unbelievable. Anyway, I'm going. The table to the back, right?" Cameron confirmed where his date would be sitting with his friends before he finally grabbed his keys and made his way over to the door. Though he lingered by the door and turned to look at his friends. "If anything happens, and I mean anything, call me, okay? She might wake up for a bit, but that's because she's a surprisingly light sleeper for a kid, so you can just read her something, it should put her to sleep quickly. If she━" He stopped when his friend began pushing him gently toward the direction of the door. "We'll look after her, everything will be okay, just go!" Cameron held his hands up in mock surrender before he finally got out. "Alright, alright, I'm going." He mumbled something under his breath about his friends being unbelievable once again before he finally began heading out of the apartment complex. He got into his jeep and began driving in the direction of the pub where he was supposed to meet his date. He glanced at his phone that had the address of the pub and the road, carefully driving toward his destination and upon his arrival, he lingered for a moment outside, debating whether or not he should go inside.
He shouldn't, right? He shouldn't. He should go back home, stay with his daughter and wait for his fiancée to come back home but there was that nagging voice at the back of his head asking that one damned question that he was trying his hardest not think about: But what if she doesn't come back? Cameron looked down at the engagement ring embracing his finger, tracing over it gently with his thumb before he dropped his hand and instead used his other hand to press his palm flat against the door to open it. He quickly checked his surroundings before his eyes fell on the table at the back and he began approaching the table slowly, though half-way he did stop when he noticed that he was actually looking at a guy and not only just any guy but an incredibly handsome guy which made his stomach flip in a way that completely caught him off-guard.
When he accepted to go on this date, he thought it would be another woman, but it seems like his friends had completely changed their tactics. Cameron eventually started moving again and approached the table with a smile on his lips. "Hey, I hope I didn't keep you waiting ━ traffic was awful on the way over." Cameron's voice was friendly as he spoke. He scooted the chair back and took a seat, his smile evident on his lips still. "My name is Cameron, by the way. It's nice to meet you. I'm not sure how much my friends have told you about me, but I hope they were good things." Cameron said with a chuckle falling from his lips as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck. "Don't worry, they only said good things about you. It had me looking forward to meeting you, actually." He said in a sincere and soft voice, his eyes fixed on the other, taking him in slowly. "Should we, uh, should we order something?"
