“It might be a little sad but I’m free most weekends these days unless I have to work,” Lucien admitted. With his family back in France and all his friends left behind when he’d moved, his weekends were spent with his daughter and he often didn’t know what they were going to do until the day unless there was something he saw that he thought Corrine would like or there was something that she wanted to do. He had made a few friends during his time working at Hogwarts so far but they had their own lives to lead as well so he had yet to catch up with any of them properly outside of work. The truth was that he didn’t mind though, he loved his little girl and given how close he had come to losing her he knew that he wasn’t going to take any time that he was able to spend with her for granted. Luckily she was too young at the time to remember what had happened and he hoped that she would never remember those days spent in the hospital in France. He wanted to spare her as much pain as he could and he wanted to make sure she was happy. He thought that she was now but deep down he still wanted her to have the chance to be a big sister one day so he hoped she would get the chance.
“Why do I get the feeling you probably do that even when you’re not reading to her?” Lucien asked, an amused smile forming on his face as he looked over at Cameron. There was something about the way he talked about Sunny that was just so endearing and Lucien could see that Cameron really did love his daughter. He doubted that they’d been through the same thing but they had both ended up as single dads raising their daughters alone so he knew that they had a lot in common. “I feel the same when Corrine does it. As long as it makes her happy I’ll keep doing it,” he chuckled. That was all that mattered to him at the end of the day, making his little girl happy. “If you can’t beat them, join them – right?” he grinned as Cameron said he liked the way he thought.
Earlier that day Lucien had felt apprehensive about going on this date but now he was so glad that he had agreed because he was having a lot more fun than he had thought he would. Truth be told he had forgotten how much fun it could be getting to know someone new and right now things were going so well with Cameron that he wasn’t in a hurry for the night to end. He could see that Cameron perhaps questioned his choice of words but Lucien meant every one. Cameron had been a perfect gentleman so far and Lucien couldn’t remember a time when he had ever found it these easy to get to know someone new. “I think I’m the lucky one, I didn’t think I’d ever find anyone like you,” Lucien admitted. After Valentine he had known that he’d wanted to move on one day but it had been one bad date after the next so he hadn’t really thought that he would get a second chance. With Cameron it all felt so natural right now, though, and that was exactly what he wanted. “It looks like they know us both better than we know ourselves. I thought they were setting me up with a woman I wouldn’t click with like last time, I’m glad I was wrong on both counts.” He and Cameron had definitely clicked and if he was honest it had been a pleasant surprise finding out that his date was a guy for a change. Things were definitely going better than he had thought they would and he hoped that continued.
As Cameron said he was speaking from the heart, Lucien felt a smile touch his lips. “I can tell. That’s why it means so much,” he said gently. There didn’t seem to be anything other than sincerity in his voice whenever he spoke and that was refreshing to say the least. Lucien had been with people who had lied to him in the past and he had only ever ended up getting his heart broken so he really did appreciate Cameron’s honesty more than he could ever know. “We do. We both have their best interests at heart, we just want them to be happy,” he nodded.
Lucien couldn’t help but laugh as Cameron rolled his eyes and accused him of making what he’d said up on the spot.“I guess you’ll just have to see me again and find out, won’t you?” Lucien chuckled, his expression turning playful as he looked over at Cameron. Truth be told it was how he had been raised, one of the few things his parents had instilled in him was that he should treat his dates with respect and never let them pay and it was one tradition that he was more than happy to keep up with. “In that case I’m looking forward to it,” he admitted as Cameron said that the place they were going to had some really good options. “Yeah I did. That would be great, thanks,” he said sincerely as Cameron said that they could come back to get his car. Climbing into the passenger’s side, Lucien found himself stealing glances at Cameron every so often before finally letting his gaze settle on him rather than the road completely. He was quickly finding that it was difficult to keep his eyes off of Cameron and that was something that he wasn’t used to at all but he knew that it would be pointless to try and fight it.
Snapping out of it as Cameron said that they were there, Lucien cleared his throat quickly before climbing out of the car. Thanking Cameron as he held the door open for him, Lucien made his way inside and said a quick hello to Cameron’s friend when he introduced them. It wasn’t long before they were at their table and Lucien’s gaze swept over the menu. Cameron was right, there did seem to be a lot of great options. “That does sound good. Actually a lot of the dishes do,” he admitted as his gaze continued to sweep over the menu. Lucien wasn’t sure when Cameron’s attention fell on him but after a while Cameron caught his eye and Lucien felt a smile touch his lips as he realised that the guy was watching him. “Have I got something on my face?” he teased, his tone playful as he spoke. He doubted that was it, it looked like Cameron just liked looking at him the same way that Lucien liked looking at him and that thought alone was enough to make his heart flutter. “You know, I think I might give what you suggested a try,” he added as he closed his menu. “Perhaps a bottle of wine to share as well?” he suggested. “Have you decided what you’d like to have?”
