Devereux Family [3/9 taken]

Say hello to the Devereux family. Olivier is a half-blood wizard and Amelie is a pureblooded veela so she doesn’t have access to the same magic that her husband and children do. Lucien is the oldest and he was born three hours before his twin sister Mylene. His second sister was born two and a half years later followed triplets a year later and then finally his younger brother. All of the children were born and raised in France and they attended Beauxbatons. More information about the family can be found below and in my app for Lucien. Lucien has always been incredibly protective of his siblings and he will have wanted to make sure anyone they dated was good enough for them. He kept the abuse he was going through at the hands of his wife a secret from his family but they have rallied around to help him since learning the truth.

OLIVIER DEVEREUX

Olivier attended Beauxbatons in his youth and afterwards he met and fell in love with Amelie. They always wanted a large family and they were blessed with seven children. Lucien and Mylene took a bit of a backseat when their younger sister was born and it was the same with each child after that. He tried his best to be there for his children but he bonded with his daughters better than he did his sons. He didn’t take it well when Lucien came out as bisexual, he was supportive to his son’s face but Lucien would catch Olivier looking at him like he was a disappointment and he had no idea who his son was any longer and Lucien overheard him and Amelie talking about how they hoped that it was just a phase. Olivier was pleased when Lucien eventually married a woman and Corrine was born and even now he doesn’t really know how to talk to Lucien about the abuse his son suffered at his wife’s hands or the fact that she tried to kill them. When Alexis tried coming out to Olivier his reaction was worse, Olivier told him that they had let his brother experiment but weren't going to tolerate him doing the same so Alexis has no choice but to hide who he really is if he wants to stay a part of the family.

AMELIE DEVEREUX

Brought up in a veela community, it was frowned upon when Amelie married a wizard with no veela blood running through his veins since she was expected to keep her bloodline as pure as possible but she didn’t care because she was in love. She taught her daughters about their veela side and she loved her sons but she didn’t completely know how to connect with them while they were growing up although that didn't stop her from trying with them. She didn’t take it well when Lucien came out as bisexual, she was supportive to her son’s face but Lucien would catch her looking at him like he was a disappointment and she had no idea who her son was any longer and Lucien overheard her and Olivier talking about how they hoped that it was just a phase. Amelie was relieved when Lucien eventually married a woman and Corrine was born and even now she doesn’t really know how to talk to Lucien about the abuse her son suffered at his wife’s hands or the fact that she tried to kill them but she is trying to be there for her son as much as possible. She supported Olivier when he told Alexis that they weren't going to accept him being different and she would rather he deny who he is than disgrace their family.

Lucien is the eldest child and was born naturally while his twin sister Mylene was born hours later by c-section. He attended Beauxbatons and was a good student but during his time there he learned that he is bisexual. He had a boyfriend during his latter years at school and his parents stayed quiet about it but they were certain that it was just a phase and he would grow out of it. After graduation he started working as an Auror for the French Ministry and it was while he was training that he met the woman named Valentine who would later become his wife. It was just fun for both of them to begin with but somewhere along the line they fell in love and they were happy. They got married and a few years later found out that they were expecting a child. The pregnancy was rough on Valentine and the mood swings didn't subside after she gave birth to their daughter Corrine, they seemed to get worse.

A year after Corrine was born, Valentine decided she wanted another baby but Lucien was worried about how rough the first pregnancy was and thought it might be too soon. She managed to talk him around but his heart wasn't in it as he'd felt like he'd lost his wife completely the first time around. Valentine fell pregnant a second time but lost the baby after falling down a flight of stairs while going to pick up Corrine from the babysitter's a few months into the pregnancy and they were told she couldn't have any more children. They were both devastated and Lucien tried to console her but Valentine didn't want to know. She became abusive towards him and Lucien ended up in the hospital a few times but always claimed his injuries were work related. Valentine made it clear that she would tell everyone that he was the one hurting her if he ever tried telling anyone the truth so he endured everything she threw his way but after he had to stay in hospital for a few days, he left Corrine with his family and made Valentine see a therapist. She seemed to genuinely try for the next few weeks and Lucien felt like he was getting his wife back. He brought Corrine home but that night he found out that it was all an act. Valentine set the house on fire starting with their daughter's room in an attempt to take Lucien and Corrine's lives before killing herself. Lucien woke up and managed to get his daughter out of the house but his wife was already gone. Corrine wasn't breathing and he had to watch as emergency services tried to bring her back. Thankfully they managed it and Lucien stayed by her side the whole time she was in hospital even when he was told after an anxious seventy two hour observation period that she would make a full recovery.

The truth about what he had been through came out after that and his siblings rallied around him. A few months later he decided to train to become a doctor so he could be around for his daughter more and he stayed in France for a while before getting a job first at St Mungo's as a Healer for a while and then a few months later as a Doctor at Hogwarts where he is now finally settled.

MYLENE DEVEREUX

Mylene is Lucien’s twin sister and she was born by c-section three hours after her brother following complications with her own delivery. She has always been the louder of the two while Lucien was the one to reach the milestones first but they have always been incredibly close. They were sorted into different houses at Beauxbatons and Lucien often had to help his sister focus and get through her exams. She was there for him after his wife tried to kill him and his daughter and she helped him pick up the pieces of his life afterwards.

Alexis is the youngest son and was born five years after his eldest siblings. He has always been closest to Lucien and was often picked on by his older sisters since he was the youngest and didn’t know how to say no to them like his older brother did. He was horrified when he learned what Lucien had been through and he stayed at the hospital with his brother while they waited for news on his niece Corrine. He took Lucien and Corrine in after the fire and helped them learn to come to terms with what had happened. He stayed behind when Lucien moved to the UK but he’ll soon be making the move himself to be closer to his brother and niece.

Alexis tried coming out as gay to their parents years ago but they made it clear that they would never accept it, even telling him that his brother had experimented with a same sex relationship but they wouldn't tolerate anymore of that from any of their children, so he has been in the closet ever since.
