Starting over wasn’t something that Alexis had thought that he would end up doing but the truth was that it was probably what he needed. Lucien and Corrine had moved in with him after everything that happened with Valentine and Alexis had loved having them there. It was only meant to be a temporary arrangement but in the end it had become permanent and it was the best thing that had happened to Alexis for a while. Being able to look out for his brother and niece had given him the chance to focus on something other than his disastrous personal life and he had needed that more than he had realised. He hated his parents for refusing to accept him when he came out to them and he hated them for doing the same to Lucien. It had never been a secret to Alexis that they weren’t really that interested in their sons, it had always been about their daughters and Alexis had always made the best of it that he could because he had known that was just the way they were. Having Lucien around had helped so Alexis had jumped at the chance to return the favour when it presented itself. He had missed the signs about what was going on because Lucien simply hadn’t wanted anyone to know and Alexis knew that he wasn’t going to make the same mistake again.
Things had changed after Lucien and Corrine left and Alexis had tried to get his life back to the way it used to be but he just couldn’t. He managed to last a few months before deciding that it was time for him to have a fresh start as well and Alexis didn’t regret it. He had seen how surprised the two of them were when he showed up at the house but they were also pleased and he really was glad about that. They had insisted that he stay with them this time around after they’d stayed with him for so long and Alexis had been happy to accept. He didn’t particularly like living alone and even though Lucien was more than capable of looking after Corrine on his own Alexis couldn’t deny that he liked the idea of being there for both of them so his brother could have a life as well. Neither of them had had it easy when it came to love but they both deserved to find it and Alexis knew that his brother couldn’t do that if all of his free time was spent looking after Corrine. The rest of their family were still in France so other than the friends Lucien had made there wasn’t anyone else for him to call on so it worked out well for both of them. So far things were going well at the Ministry, Alexis was settling in and he knew that he needed to get to know his surroundings better so he decided to head into Hogsmeade after work to get a drink. Alexis knew that he had a lot to figure out now that he had the freedom to do so, for years he had been seeing men in secret while publicly dating women because his parents had made it clear that they would never accept him being anything other than straight but it was taking a toll on Alexis to hide who he really was so he knew that he needed to decide on what he was going to do but for now he knew that he would simply settle for making some friends. It didn’t take him long to reach the Three Broomsticks and Alexis ordered himself a drink before his gaze came to rest on a woman who was sitting alone. “Hi. Forgive me if I’m wrong but I don’t like seeing anyone drinking alone. Can I buy you a drink?” he asked, his accent shining through as he spoke.
