Working as an Auror wasn’t new to Alexis given that he’d worked for the Ministry back in France but now he was starting over not just in a new place but in a new country as well. Thankfully he had started learning English at a young age so he knew how to speak the language but there were some words and phrases he heard used that he just didn’t understand. He knew that he would get used to that sooner or later so for now Alexis was just trying to get to grips with the way things worked and where he had to go. The job was the same but he didn’t know anyone who worked there and it wasn’t always easy breaking into tight knit groups like some of them were but he knew that he would figure it out. Right now even with everything going on at work Alexis still felt like he could finally breathe for the first time in a long time. He loved his family but he hated the way his parents treated him when he came out to them and the truth was that France just hadn’t felt like home since his brother and Corrine left. Alexis had tried to go on as normal after that but he had always been closest to his brother despite the age difference so it felt right being close to the two people who mattered most to him again. For now he was living with the two of them but Alexis knew that sooner or later he would have to find a place of his own. He didn’t particularly like living alone and being around meant that he could look after Corrine sometimes so his brother could have a life as well but he knew that it wouldn’t be forever.
For now Alexis knew that he just wanted to take his time starting over and get to know his surroundings a bit better. He had been given light duties to start with since it was only his first day but he longed to get out in the field where he could be of use. His boss had told him that he would have to take it easy for the first few days but after that he would be free to go out on missions and the truth was that he couldn’t wait. Alexis knew that being an Auror was what he was good at and if he was honest it was a relief to be able to focus on that rather than his messy personal life anyway. Alexis knew that he had a lot to figure out while he was there, for the first time he was free to figure out who he was and what he really wanted away from the scrutiny of his parents’ gaze and that was something that he wanted to make the most of while it lasted. He wasn’t sure whether any of his sisters would decide to make the move as well but at the end of the day they had their own lives to lead and he understood that. That day Alexis had spent the morning getting to know his way around the Ministry and reading over some of the active case files so he could familiarise himself with what his department was up against at the moment but as lunch time rolled around he headed to the cafe. He knew that they were all free to go out for lunch if they wanted to but it was only his first day so he knew that showing his face was probably the best way to do that. Finding an empty table, he glanced over the menu and placed his order as someone came over to take it. His drink was brought over first and he sipped that as he waited before grabbing his phone as he heard it chime and smiling as he spotted a message from his brother checking in to see how his first day was going. It didn’t take him long to send a message back and with that done he glanced around him, taking in the faces of the others there as he tried to get to know them at least by sight while he waited.
