Syrus might not be the best student in the world but he tried and, as his professors kept telling him, that counted for something. One thing he had definitely inherited from his dad was his stubbornness and whenever he couldn’t get his head around something he would simply keep trying until he figured it out. Yasmin was great at keeping him grounded and helping him see the light when he struggled with something but Syrus was getting older and he knew that he needed to start standing on his own two feet a little more when it came to things like this. He adored his twin sister but he knew that he couldn’t rely on her to always be there to help him and he didn’t like to bother Carly with things like this if he could help it either. She always had so much on her plate and even though they were friends before she was adopted into his family. Syrus had still never liked adding to her troubles if he could help it. The way he saw it he was the oldest, or at least he liked to say he was sometimes since he and Yasmin didn’t know which of them was born first, but at the very least he was the only boy and he felt protective of all three of his sisters. The way he saw it, he wanted to protect them if he could and right now that meant trying to figure this out on his own without bothering either of them and letting them get on with their days.
Unfortunately that meant that right now he was getting incredibly frustrated. He had decided to take Potions since he had toyed with the idea of becoming an Auror like his dad but the potion they had been given as a homework assignment was one that was difficult to get right and that fact that he kept getting distracted didn’t help, that was why he had decided to hide out in the Potions classroom that day until he made himself focus and got it right. At the side of the desk were a couple of cauldrons that had holes in the bottom of them already, there hadn’t been any explosions yet but he knew that he was going to have to replace the cauldrons he had ruined. Deep down Syrus knew that he should be asking someone for help even if it wasn’t one of his sisters but he was determined not to do that. For once he wanted to figure something out on his own and he let his gaze move over the instructions in his book once more, making sure to follow along closely this time so he could try and get it right. Thankfully the potion seemed to be the right colour this time at least which was a first and as he cut up the next batch of ingredients he knew that he just had to hope that it was going to stay that way.
