During his first year Syrus had learned to expect the unexpected at Hogwarts. While he was growing up he’d only ever had Yasmin in his corner and they hadn’t had any other family but during their first year the Headmaster had put the pieces together and realised who their dad was and he had brought the three of them together. Not a day went by when Syrus wasn’t grateful to him for that, he had always envied the kids who were adopted and fostered by loving parents while he and Yasmin were living in the group home and he had often found himself wondering what they had done wrong to be forgotten about all the time. Whenever open days came along where prospective parents would visit and meet the kids to figure out who the right one for them might be he and Yasmin were always shut in a room upstairs out of the way. Syrus hadn’t known why they were treated like that and why no one ever seemed to want them but Will had answered that for them as well, their grandparents had ensured that they would remain in the group home until they aged out of the system and were able to live on their own. They hadn’t wanted them and they hadn’t wanted anyone else to have them either.
Fortunately it wasn’t like that with their dad, he had given them a home straight away and that meant that they never had to go back to the group home in Egypt. Truth be told Syrus was glad to be out of there even now, it was the only home he and Yasmin had known but they hadn’t really had too many good memories there, not like they did now. Riley, Alix and Quinn joining the family had come as a surprise each time and Syrus hadn’t known whether his parents would want to help Carly on a more permanent basis after what she had been through or not but the truth was that now Syrus had the kind of family that he had never even let himself dream of before. He didn’t just have Yasmin and his dad, he had a mum and two more sisters he adored and there was a new baby on the way as well. Syrus would be lying if he said that he wasn’t a little worried that he might end up being outnumbered even more if it turned out to be another girl but he knew that he would figure something out if he had to. As it was he was beyond happy even as the world descended into chaos. The Enlightened had really turned things upside down and since his dad had work that day Syrus had decided to head home to see his mum for lunch. Closing the door behind him, he set his bag down by the door before looking around for his mum only to feel an amused smile touch his lips as he caught her doing something he knew that she wasn’t meant to be doing. “I thought dad said you were meant to be taking it easy?” he asked as he folded his arms across his chest, his amusement growing as he watched her from the doorway.
