[attr=class, baileylightmaintextbox][attr=class, baileylightmaintext]After a long day of studying Bailey still wasn’t getting the results she wanted. For her siblings magic and schoolwork seemed to come so easily. It was like no matter how hard she tried she could never outshine them. Whatever she did had already been done bigger or better or faster by one of them. It was infuriating. She wished she could just do things and impress their father like they could, but no matter how much she tried she always ended up back here. Frustrated and exhausted.

She huffed and slammed her textbook shut, placing it on a shelf with all her other books. She definitely wasn’t done, but she needed a break. Her head was dully pounding and the thought of trying to remember one more thing was too daunting to consider. She wondered if anyone else in her family got these headaches, or if it was just another way she was weaker than them.
[break][break]
A warm stuffiness floated through the dungeon air and she desperately wanted to be outside. She grabbed a few snacks and the book she was currently reading for fun and tucked them in her bag. The second she stepped out of her room her posture straightened to exude a false confidence. There was barely anyone in the Slytherin common room on a sunny Saturday evening. It was almost eerie to walk through the constantly bustling space without its usual atmosphere.

She continued up the stairs and outside where a friendly chill met her. She longed for the heat of summer, but at least the warm notes in the breeze held the promise of spring. Soon plants would be blooming and the air would smell like flowers. She found a spot under an oak tree and plopped down, leaning against the trunk and letting the sun shine down on her face. She was proud to be a Slytherin, but she hated living in the dungeon where she couldn’t even get a taste of the outside world through a window. It could be suffocating.
[break][break]
She opened her eyes as she heard a bird whistling in the trees above her. Another called back from somewhere nearby. She couldn’t see either of them, but knowing there was other life nearby comforted her. She pulled out one of her snacks and her book and set her mind on reading. For a brief moment she could be transported away to a world where she didn’t have to be perfect.
