Grace was shaking as she made her way up through the castle. She had known she was different ever since she was young, being a vampire had never stopped her from doing all of the things that normal girls her age did but she had seen the way that some of her friends’ parents had looked at her. They hadn’t trusted her at first and she knew that it had taken them time to realise that she wasn’t that different but in the end they had figured it out. Grace had thought that starting at Hogwarts would be great since she had thought that she would have her childhood friends by her side but they had all abandoned her before the start of their first year and ever since then they had been doing their best to make her life as difficult as possible. Grace knew that she could have spoken up, she could have told her Head of House or one of her professors about what was going on but in the past it had only ever been name calling and cruel words. Those were things that she had learned to ignore, a thick skin developing and growing even thicker every time something was said to her, but this was different. This went beyond cruel words being aimed in her direction, this time her former best friend had tried to kill her and Grace had no idea why the girl had gone to such lengths to try and get rid of her. While it was true that Grace had learned to give as good as she got when it came to her former best friend refusing to be walked all over, she knew that she hadn’t done anything to deserve this. Her burns had healed but Grace still felt weak and she knew that she would continue feeling that way until she was able to get some blood.
If there was one thing Grace hated, it was feeling weak. Her dad was the Minister for Magic and she always tried to stay strong so he wouldn’t have to worry about her but even as she moved her eyes were shining with tears and her necklace was clutched firmly in her hand. One of the girls, Bailey, had helped her get it back and Grace knew that she needed to repair it but more than that, she needed to have the chain strengthened so nothing like this could ever happen again. She had never thought about it before, she’d had the necklace for as long as she could remember and it was something that she never took off but that day she had almost lost it and she could have lost her life as well so she knew that she needed to make sure that that didn’t happen again. It was as she was making her way up another staircase that she spotted a familiar figure making his way towards her and Grace’s breath caught in her throat at the way he stopped and studied her. She looked away quickly, not wanting anyone to see her like this, but it was too late. Samuel pulled her into a hug and a couple of tears rolled down her cheeks as she hugged him back. She knew that she couldn’t lose it now, not yet, so she quickly pulled herself together and when he asked what had happened she explained it all to him. He changed direction after that and together they headed to his mum’s office. Grace wanted to protest but she didn’t have it in her right now so instead she walked with him and she let out a shaky breath as she took a seat once they reached the office. It was empty when they got there and Samuel waited with her for his mum to get there, promising to go and get her a blood bag from the Hospital Wing as soon as he knew that she wasn’t on her own.
