Grace was still in shock, she knew that, but knowing it didn’t make things any easier. She had let Samuel take her to his mum’s office when he had found her after she’d managed to get her daylight necklace back and he had offered to walk her back to the Common Room afterwards but she had refused. Showing weakness wasn’t something that Grace was very good at, it had just been her and her dad throughout her whole life and she was used to not letting it show when things got to her. She knew that she didn’t want her dad to worry especially now that he was Minister for Magic and had all of that added responsibility and she didn’t like letting the other students know when things got to her either. If she let that side of her show then it would only give them something that they could exploit and Grace knew that she didn’t want to do that. Her dad had to stay strong for the country even after losing his friend during the broadcast in January and Grace knew that she needed to stay strong now. It was with that in mind that she kept her expression neutral and her head held high as she made her way back to the Common Room after speaking to Professor Maddox. Grace had never understood why her former friends had turned on her the way they had done but this went beyond the usual taunting and name calling that they had been doing for the last six years, this time they’d had another girl steal her daylight necklace while she was out in the sun and if there hadn’t been a shady spot close enough then Grace knew that she would have died. That wasn’t something that she took lightly and, from what she had been told, Professor Maddox and Professor Belacqua weren’t going to take it lightly either. Grace had always felt safe while she was at Hogwarts but right now with the girl still out there she didn’t and she knew that it was going to take time for her to feel that way again.
Reaching the Common Room at last, Grace ignored the looks that the other Hufflepuffs gave her and the way some of them started whispering as she entered. Clearly the rumour mill was doing its job already and word of what had happened had already spread. Grace knew that she shouldn’t be so surprised but she had hoped that it would at least wait until she was back in her dorm and could forget that the outside world existed. Her daylight necklace was back around her neck where it belonged having been repaired and strengthened and she’d had a blood bag which had made her feel better but she still wasn’t herself. She found herself searching for Minnie among the group of Hufflepuffs in the Common Room but she wasn’t there and neither were Samuel or Ryan. She knew that they would have stopped the rumours if they were there and normally she would have done it herself but right now she couldn’t bring herself to do that. She felt numb and after taking a deep breath she forced her gaze away from the others and headed in the direction of her dorm room. Closing the door behind her, Grace’s back hit the wall once she was inside the room and she sank to the floor clutching the pendant in her hand as tears started rolling down her face, the reality of what had happened hitting her full force at last. In that moment all she wanted was her dad but she didn’t want him to see her like this so she knew that she had to let it all out of her system before she called him.
