we are the keepers of their destiny
Is it any wonder why princes and kings are clowns that caper in their sawdust rings?
TAG: MATT GEORGE VARGAS . WORDS: 796. NOTES: I love them already
While the Hufflepuff alumni of Ana loved Quidditch and the thrill of the game, she sometimes wished her captain wasn't as obsessed with it as she seemed to be. Ana didn't know the captain all that well, not sure it breaching the captain and teammate territory and getting into personal history was strictly wanted by the elder woman, but Ana was friendly with her and often would stay after a full team practice to work on additional moves her being the keeper the captain being the chaser working out in their favor for anything that Ana may be working on and she knew the additional practices were wearing her out and killing her social life. Well that and the fact that her life was literally in danger and she'd now been assigned a Guardian. She'd initially wanted to protest having one, how was she going to handle someone following her around all the time and being her shadow? When she discovered that her guardian was Matt freaking Vargas, the protest had died on her lips while she fumbled to figure out if she could turn him down. She hadn't in the end, mostly because she liked being with Matt even if it was supposed to be in a professional way, but every time she looked at him she remembered the drunken side of her celebrating a Quidditch victory and taking him back to her place. Or the sober repeat of him ending up in her bed. That was what her mind had saw instead of the serious guardian the headquarters were giving her and her silence had been interpreted as acceptance.
She felt safe with Matt though, even if the awkward sexual tension had the tendency to creep up on them, she could be herself with him and didn't feel awkward having him by her side and she'd felt as if they were really getting to know each other in a different way than carnally (though that had also been fantastic). The pitch was so heavily protected that during her practices Matt didn't have to stay as long as she swore to stay until he returned for her and she'd usually followed that rule to the letter, but then there was the incident where Summer had gotten hurt and Ana had taken her to St. Mungo's and in the moment she had left her phone and all belongings on the pitch so when Matt arrived to collect her and didn't find her but did find her phone and all her stuff, he'd been in a state, and when Ana arrived back two minutes after he did, she had took one look at his face and knew she messed up. So he'd decided to sit and watch her practice today, and it was even more an incentive when apparently he knew her captain. Immediately a flare of jealousy sparked in her, but she didn't get any feelings of romance from Summer and battled them back and during the additional practice Summer and tacked on herself that Ana stayed for, they'd convinced Matt to hop on a broom and join them for a while. In the process she'd felt the stress of her situation melt away as she just horsed around with Matt and Summer after a few actual intense competitive moves from Summer, who seemed to take any form of Quidditch very seriously.
"Bye Cap. See you Thursday." She called recalling they had the next day off of practice, Summer saying something about her best friend's birthday and some flying free promise, and waved off the captain who left with a goodbye to both her and Matt leaving just herself and her guardian on the pitch. It was so safe here, or it felt so safe here, that she didn't want that protective mask to slip back on Matt's face, "Want to stay here a little longer? We don't have to stay in the air if you don't want to, we can just lounge on the pitch. Please?" She asked, as she hovered close by him, not ready to have the bubble of the last couple hours popped. While she'd bet he was just as observant and ready to protect her as ever, some of the lines on his face seemed to be relaxed, and she wanted to have him to herself, as Matt not as Guardian Vargas. Was it a bad idea given their history of ending up in her bed naked? Probably. But they'd managed this long, and he'd told her it couldn't happen again. He was her Guardian. She'd agreed to those terms when she'd agreed to not inform anyone that they were intimately acquainted. Didn't mean she didn't want him as a friend. The sexual tension that sparked off them would fade, right?
