It had been a month since the Enlightened had revealed magic to the world and even though Hogwarts and the surrounding areas had remained safe so far, the Ministry and the Guardians were keeping security tight. It was strange walking around Hogsmeade and seeing Aurors and Guardians everywhere but that was the world that they were living in now and Jacob knew that he needed to get used to it. Had he decided to go and work for the Ministry straight away rather than stay on at Hogwarts University for another few years then he knew that he could have been out there with them but Jacob had always been a fairly patient person and he knew that he would much rather take the extra few years and learn as much as he could before heading straight out into the thick of it. Most of his classes were practical anyway and he’d managed to get some on the job training but it was good to get an idea of the theory behind it as well. A lot of Jacob’s friends had already graduated and moved on with their lives but he knew that he had made the choice that was right for him at the time and the truth was that he didn’t regret it, especially with the way that things were right now. Being at Hogwarts meant that he was able to be close to his family and it meant that he could keep an eye on his nieces and nephews. It was bad enough that his sister Ana was already having to have a Guardian without adding worrying about anyone else in the family any more than he had to so Jacob was glad that he was able to be there in case they needed him.
That day he had finished training and even though Jacob knew that he should probably head back to Hogwarts the truth was that he wasn’t ready to do that quite yet. Being a University student meant that he had more freedom to move around when he wasn’t in class and lately he had been spending more time in Hogsmeade. He knew that the village was safe at least for the time being and the atmosphere was different there to Hogwarts. So many of the students, especially the younger ones, were scared and Jacob knew that it would be that way for quite some time. Jacob couldn’t blame them for worrying about their families especially since he felt the same way about his own but every now and then he needed some time to relax and it was with that in mind that he’d headed to the Three Broomsticks. For a moment he thought about having something a little stronger but instead he opted for a glass of butterbeer to start with. Sitting at the bar he lifted the glass to his lips before taking a sip. It was still pretty early so there weren’t too many people there yet but he hoped that would start to change sooner or later so there would be a chance that he could play a friendly game of pool later with someone.
