Grace had known that her sixth year at Hogwarts was going to be different, after all the stress of her OWLs was over but next year she would have her NEWTs to think about. This year at least she was in limbo a little and she had honestly thought that it would be a chance to start preparing for her exams but have some fun at the same time although now she couldn't help but feel like that wasn't going to happen. No one could have seen what the Enlightened were going to do coming and with her dad in the thick of it Grace knew that the last thing she wanted was to end up adding to his worries. He had the whole country counting on him to find those responsible and stop them and she knew how difficult that had to be for him. Even people who had known each other for years were turning on each other right now and even the students at Hogwarts were no exception. Grace had had friends turn on her before during the run up to her first year at Hogwarts and those friendships had never been rebuilt. Grace could have let slip all of the secrets they had told her back then but she hadn't done because even after everything that had happened she was still loyal to them in that respect even though they had turned their backs on her. She still had other friends around her at least and one thing Grace had learned over the years was how to be alone so she knew that she would be fine.
That day Grace's classes had been pretty full on and that was something that had surprised her a little. Before any of this had even happened she had made her decision about the classes that she wanted to take and she stood by those choices. She needed to be able to defend herself and she wasn't going to let anything stop her from doing that. There wasn't a doubt in her mind that if her dad had his way then she would have a Guardian shadowing her everywhere she went but to some of the other students she was already the freaky vampire girl who had no idea what it was like to be human because she never had been one and she was also the Minister for Magic's daughter so she knew that she didn't need anything else to set her apart from everyone else. As Grace's free period rolled around she thought about seeing if any of her friends were free but she had some homework she needed to do for History of Magic so instead she made her way to the Students' Lounge only to find that there were a few Slytherins there who glared at her the moment she walked through the door. "There she is. You're a cosmic mistake Herondale, you know that?" one of the girls, a former friend of hers in fact, jeered. "You've known me since before we started here and you can't come up with anything more original than that?" she asked as she rolled her eyes at the girl and her friends. "You can say what you like about me but in a few years your looks will fade and then you won't have anything going for you at all. I'll still be living my life long after everyone has forgotten your name now if you don't mind I have some reading to do," she said, a somewhat satisfied smile touching her lips as the girl huffed and left with her friends. The way the others talked to her or about her used to hurt but she'd had no choice but to develop a thick skin. She would be lying if she said it didn't still hurt when those comments came from people who were once her friends, though, and Grace let out a shaky breath as she sat down in a chair in front of the fire and opened her book to start reading, not having noticed whether there was anyone else in the room or not.
