hunt goes on deep in the night
It was that time again - the mid evening lull as the wizards stopping by after work and the witches having a girls' night slowly filtered out of The Leaky Cauldron as if carried on a breeze. Along with them, sunlight leached from the dark stone walls as the night claimed the day. Raelle dragged a damp cloth across the chipped staining of the bar. With every pass, her reflection came back a little clearer in the varnish. She could have used magic to clean the bar, but the gentle back and forth motion always gave her a sense of peace before the late night pub hoppers began to appear.
On this night, the witch sported her traditional aesthetic: long waves of cascading blue, green, and purple strands fell over her shoulders. She was bundled up in a wool duster since the old pub was built before they considered personal comfort a priority. At her feet, Roe lay with his bulky head on his paws, his three tails wagging slowly. As Raelle shuffled to the left to reach for a distant stain, the crup huffed in his sleep, his black nose sniffing at nothing. Raelle smiled and chuckled. There had been a time where she couldn't get the pup to take a nap no matter how hard she tried. Now, exerting any sort of effort was some sort of affront to his ancestors.
Raelle tossed the dirty rag into her washing bucket and washed her hands. With a cursory glance around the pub to ensure there were no new visitors to greet, she picked up a tray of steins and carried them across the bar, unloading the glass into an attractive display. Raelle ran her fingers through her hair, which was now slightly damp with exertion. The evening lull was nice in that it gave her a little breather between bar crowds. But when the creaking and settling of the old building faded into the background, it was very quiet, lonely even.
The bell above the door tinkled with glee, indicating a new arrival. "Welcome in," she called out, as she turned to wash her hands again. "Sit wherever your want, honey. I'll be with you in a sec."
